In the darkness, a marble philosopher bows his head. His thick beard and tight curls catch a side light that sculpts every relief, while the rest of the figure melts into the black. He seems to be meditating on something immense. Above him, a short, dizzying sentence printed in French: « Rien n'existe de fixe, sauf le changement. » — “Nothing is fixed except change.”

Heraclitus of Ephesus lived more than 2,500 years ago. Nicknamed “the Obscure” for his enigmatic style, he left only fragments, quoted by later authors. The most famous compares the world to a river: we step into it, but it is always new waters flowing. This formula about change is not in his own hand, but it faithfully sums up his thought as it has come down to us: everything transforms, nothing stays the same, and it is this very movement that makes the unity of the world. An idea that still speaks to us, at a time when everything changes so fast.

The image is rendered in black and white, with a slightly textured dark background and chiaroscuro lighting. Only the face, the hair and the drapery emerge from the shadow, giving the composition a dramatic intensity and great restraint.

At Menivora, we believe philosophy helps us move through transformations rather than fear them. This poster is a reminder that change is not an accident of life, but its very nature.

It will find its place in a study, living room, library or bedroom, and suits dark, minimalist or industrial interiors, black, grey or white walls, leather, dark wood and black metal. It is a meaningful gift for someone going through a period of transition, a fresh start or a life change, or for any lover of Greek philosophy. It complements our Socrates, Thales, Seneca and Cicero posters.

At Menivora, we believe what changes us makes us grow.
